Best Suburbs in Fort Lauderdale

Moving to a new city can present its challenges if you don’t know much about the area. Whether you are moving alone or with a family, you will want to make sure you have done adequate research on the area to determine what neighborhoods might best fit your needs. The suburbs of Fort Lauderdale present so many positive aspects to individuals or families moving to the area. While the areas are still close to beautiful beaches, conveniences and city life, they are far calmer than living in the heart of town and may be better for growing families. Here are some of the top suburbs in the Fort Lauderdale area:

Plantation – A few miles west of downtown Fort Lauderdale, this safe and friendly city feels like a rural setting because of the abundance of trees. Major companies, such as Motorola Solutions, National Beverage and more, are located there, creating many jobs in the area. Additionally, the city is a golfer’s paradise with several large golf courses. Plantation has excellent schools within its district and a variety of housing options

Wilton Manors – This diverse island city is small and walkable, yet bustling with activities. Wilton Manors is home to a dozen parks, a large weekend farmers market and a beautiful nature trail that runs through a preserve lined with mangrove trees. There are plenty of places to stop and eat, as well as several festivals that occur here each year. Wilton Manors has three separate neighborhood associations and is mostly comprised of single-family homes, condos and townhomes.

Davie – Somewhat famous as home to the training location for the Miami Dolphins and the filming location of the movie “Caddyshack”, Davie is a beautiful Fort Lauderdale suburb bordering the Florida Everglades. The city of Davie is sprawled across 35 square miles, giving it a rural atmosphere that sets it apart from surrounding cities. Davie is home to many dining and shopping options as well as attractions such as Buehler Planetarium & Observatory and Flamingo Gardens. Davie also houses the South Florida Education Center, which includes access to Broward College, University of Florida and more.
