Florida Interior Summer Home Maintenance

Living in sunny Florida has a number of advantages. These include the warm weather, close proximity to beaches and more! However, the heat and humidity of Florida’s summer weather can cause your house to take a beating. Follow these summer home maintenance tips to keep your house in tip-top shape:

Check for leaks – Look throughout your entire home for leaks, since even a small leak can create a much larger problem in your home. Common starting points for leaks are water heaters, faucets, sump pumps, roofs, attics and basements.

Get an HVAC tune-up – Your air conditioner has likely been working overtime during the warm summer months. Having regular service done on your HVAC system will ensure your air conditioner continues to work as it should throughout the summer and that your heat is ready for the chillier months.

Clean air vents – Dirt, dust and debris can collect in your air vents, resulting in less efficiency from your HVAC system. Be sure to replace filters as well as vacuum air vents.

Check for pests – Survey your home’s possible entryways for pests. Common Florida pests include rodents, cockroaches, carpenter ants and mosquitoes. Check your baseboards and window frames for cracks or small openings and be sure to seal them. Also check less frequented locations such as basements and attics and be aware that any water damage can be an attractive environment for pests.
