Take a Weekend to Declutter Your Home

What better use is there of your time stuck at home than decluttering? While piles of mail and laundry can accumulate and it can be difficult to find time to organize everything, you can be on your way to a clutter-free house in just a few simple steps!

Here are four steps to decluttering in a single weekend:

Start with two trash bags–Using two large trash bags, move from room to room filling them with things you want to donate. Make it your goal to fill the two bags completely by the time you’ve finished circulating through your home.

12-12-12 –Once you have completed the trash bag exercise, you can implement the 12-12-12 rule. Find 12 items in your home to throw away, 12 items to donate and 12 to return to their proper home. This can even become a habit that you engage in weekly.

Clutter baskets –Designate a basket for each person in your home. Each time someone’s clutter is scattered about the house, place it in their basket. At the end of each day, everyone should return the items in their clutter basket to their rightful place.

Closet hanger trick –Hang all your closet clothes in the reverse direction. When you wear something, turn the hanger in the other direction. After a few months, it should be clear which items in your closet are not worn. Come up with a plan to donate those items.
