Home Staging Tips

Home staging is the process of arranging furniture and décor to showcase a home to its fullest potential. “Staging” homes has become a popular way to increase a home’s selling price while decreasing the home’s time on the market. The idea is that homebuyers can envision themselves in your home, so it’s important to remove any family photos and décor that is specific to personal taste.

Following are some tried-and-true home staging tips from interior design experts:

DEEP CLEAN

You should clean every nook and cranny of the house, from floors to windows and countertops. A clean home shows potential buyers that you take good care of your property, so take the time to scrub that bathtub clean of hard water stains!

DECLUTTER

From piles of magazines to unopened mail and stacks of clothing not often worn, your home may be full of clutter. Prioritize what you need, purge old items, and make sure that everything has a place. The more empty storage spaces you have, the better.

REPLACE WINDOW TREATMENTS

If you have old and heavy drapes, consider taking them down and getting more modern, airy floor-length curtains that allow sunlight in. To make the room appear larger, hang the curtains from the ceiling instead of at the top of the window frame. Make sure to take measurements so you know the ceiling’s height before you get started.

REARRANGE FURNITURE

Make sure that the furniture is the right size for the room. If you have too much furniture in the home, it will make it feel smaller and claustrophobic. Put any excess pieces of furniture in storage and replace large sectionals with smaller couches to open up the room. By contrast, if your home has a more minimal design and feels somewhat hollow, adding potted plants and greenery can help liven things up.

You can also spruce up sofas and chairs with throws and pillows to add contrast and even a pop of color.
